Former IEA Pulp and Paper IA
The pulp and paper industry accounts for about five percent of total final energy use in IEA Member countries, which is about 15% of the final use in the industry sector. The objective of the Implementing Agreement on Pulp and Paper is "to improve the efficiency with which energy is used in the industry" and the mission is "to increase the knowledge of cost-effective new technologies and system layouts for increased productivity and better product quality while improving energy efficiency, sustainability, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental consequences."
The Pulp and Paper R&D Programme is now transferred into the new IEA Implementing Agreement on Industrial Energy-Related Technologies and Systems (IETS). Pulp & Paper IA and Process Integration IA are both transferred and integrated into this new IA, that has a wider coverage of industrial technologies and systems, e.g., separation technologies.
